Android users can now use Gemini Live’s camera and screen share tool for free

All Android users can now explore the tools for free after Google launched Gemini Live’s live video and screen sharing features in March. Google’s ChatGPT Voice Mode rival, which was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) last month, can now “see”—that is, you can ask Gemini Live real-time questions about your current webpage or immediate surroundings while chatting by sharing your screen or using the camera on your smartphone.

How do you use live video and screen sharing on Gemini Live?

You may screen-share from the Gemini app by tapping the “Share screen with Live” option and then confirming. Gemini Live will continue to talk to you during the sharing process. From the top of your phone, scroll down to stop sharing your screen or camera feed, then select “Stop sharing.” Another option is to choose the screen you wish to discuss with Gemini, long-press the power button on your phone to launch Gemini, then select “Share screen with Live” to begin a conversation.

Earlier this month, the feature was first made available only to users of the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25. Google previously stated that a membership would be needed for wider access. The company claims that the decision to make the capability publicly available was motivated by favorable comments received about it.

Today marks the start of the rollout, which will eventually reach all Android users via the Gemini app in the upcoming weeks. Google has not mentioned Android version compatibility or minimum device requirements.

According to industry observers, Google is putting broad adoption of its AI technology ahead of rapid monetization by doing away with the subscription need. This could be done to increase user engagement before launching premium services later.

Once the functionality is available for their smartphone, users can access it by updating the Gemini app to the most recent version from the Google Play Store. As the deployment goes on, the business advises frequently monitoring app updates.
